In December 2017, Priyanka Chopra delivered a speech on “The Breaking of Glass Ceiling”, organized by Penguin India and spoke about twelve ways to be successful and be yourselves. The twelve sure shot rules by PC to become the best version of yourselves are listed below for you all to read and find your own niche of success.
1. Celebrate your Uniqueness
Be yourself identifying your true spirit, values and inner strengths and move forward in your journey in life. Finding your unique self is the first step towards being the best version of yourselves. Change is the only constant thing in life and you are never too old to learn something new in life. Keep evolving.
Priyanka Chopra further says – be fierce, be fearless and be flawed. Celebrate your flaws as they are a part of our uniqueness.
2. Make Informed and Educated Choices.
Priyanka Chopra calls out to us all to let our dreams fly. Dream big and beyond your imagination. Making correct choices and picking opportunities when they knock is really important.
Recognizing the opportunities when they come our way and then choosing them, working sweat and blood on them makes one successful.
3. Be Ambitious
You have never arrived enough to explore new opportunities. Priyanka Chopra specially addresses the ladies to be ambitious. She tells them that there is nothing wrong in having the cake and then eating it full. As long as you are not harming others and not doing wrong, feel free to want more for yourself. That is a way to growth.
Never limit yourself and have a fire drive in your belly.
4. Be Greedy and Be Hungry
Priyanka Chopra further explains that success should never be defined by satisfaction. Being satisfied limits one’s potential. So always be greedy, be hungry for more on your life journey.
Be prepared to work hard and always yearn for more and more.
5. Fight for your Dreams and Do Not Compromise
PC elaborates her rule further by saying keep struggling to move ahead. Don’t live on someone else’s benchmark. Let others not dictate you. Fight for your dreams for no one else is going to fight for your dreams as you.
Your path must be your own.
The journey of your life with all the failures and success must be all your own. As Vikram Seth aptly puts in his “Frog and the Nightingale” – at least the song must be your own.
6. Fail, Fail, fail again and then Rise like a Phoenix
Priyanka in her speech stressed out the importance of failure in our lives. She further says that you will not truly enjoy success if you have not tasted failure and failure is bitter. Failures are an integral part of everyone’s lives. Everyone faces pangs of guilt, self pity, phases of crying and feelings of lowness during failure. But it is of utmost importance how we react after the failure that defines our success.
PC explains that after the phase of crying and self pity, she gets up, dusts off her negative mindset and dive straight into life because to push failure aside is to move ahead. We can’t ignore failure but analyze and learn from it.
7. Be Bold and Courageous to take Risks
Priyanka Chopra in her lecture explains about the need of calculated, educated risks to evolve. She further says that if you have not explored all available possibilities, you will always remain stagnant.
Risks and gamble become worthy when they are backed by 100% effort. So be bold enough to gamble and take risk in life for it opens up newer horizons.
8. Surround yourself with Right People
Friends, peers, employees, families are all part of our success journeys elaborates Ms Priyanka Chopra. They are our greatest influencers. So there is a greater need to choose wisely.
9. You can never please Everyone
Priyanka Chopra has a opinion on the trolls. She says that no matter what you do, someone will always be unhappy. Always! In this age of social media it becomes so easy for us to become confused with the voices that actually matter and the opinions of all faceless people that hide behind the anonymity of what the web offers.
They do not matter.
10. Have a lighthearted approach towards Life
Priyanka calls life a beautiful journey. She calls out all to laugh, to calm down and have fun in life and enjoy the beautiful journey.
11. Give back to Society
PC tells people to be kind, compassionate and to be humane. Everyone we meet is fighting a hard battle. Do not judge other people in haste. Priyanka Chopra credits her mother in teaching her that there will always be someone who is less fortunate than you. So she explains that this is the reason that she started her foundation.
Priyanka also lead her voice to UNICEF and GirlUp and various other causes she associates herself with. She wants to give back to the society that made her today who she is.
We all are part of one world and it is ours and we have to heal it for ourselves.
12. Don’t ever forget your roots and where you came from
Priyanka Chopra tells us that always remember where you came from. It truly what defines you is your roots.
She confesses that she is a proud Indian, an army daughter and daughter of two doctors who has a modest middle class upbringing and a part of huge family.
Priyanka Chopra stresses out the importance of a family.
Family is always a part of our joys, sorrows, failures and success. Stick together and stay together. Be proud of your roots and culture.
Priyanka Chopra ended her Penguin Annual Lecture 2017 by calling out all to be Fierce, be fearless and be flawed. She further quoted American author and novelist Mark Frost
Life’s journey is not to arrive
at the grave safely with a well
But rather to skid
In sideways totally worn out shouting
“Holy Shit, what a ride!”
It seems to me that Priyanka Chopra fully engrosses the theory of Mark Frost. She is a self made independent woman, of humble origins, who lives by her own rules.
Her headstrong attitude and independence is reflected by her abilities in making out of the box choices. Agreeing to be a part of Aitraaz as antagonist Sonia Roy was a huge risk during her early years as actress. She bagged the Filmare Award for Best Performance in Negative role for her educated choice. Again, she garnered success for playing the troubled model in Fashion landing numerous awards in her kitty.
Her choices just like her rules were refined and well researched. Her choices made her what she is today. She portrayed a wide range of characters in the films like Fashion, Barfi!, 7 Khoon Maaf, Mary Kom, Dil Dhadkne Do, and Bajirao Mastani.
Priyanka Chopra again made heads turn when she agreed to be a part of American thriller series Quantico as Alex Parrish. She went on to become the first South Asian to headline an American network drama series.
Whew , I can go on and on talking about this army ki ladkai of middle class upbringing. She is a real inspiration for all of us girls out there in the world.
